Jasa Konsultan Pajak di Denpasar: Apa yang Dikerjakan, Kapan Dibutuhkan, dan Cara Menilai Biayanya

Many business owners in Denpasar only look for a tax consultant once something has gone wrong: a letter from the tax office, penalties piling up, or the annual return deadline a few days away. Yet a tax consultant adds the most value before problems appear, while transactions can still be recorded correctly and business decisions can still be weighed for their tax impact.

This article explains what tax consultant services in Denpasar actually involve, the signs your business needs one, how fees are usually structured, and what to prepare so the engagement runs efficiently.

What does a tax consultant do?

Broadly, the work falls into four groups. A small business may only need one; an established PT usually needs all four.

1. Routine compliance

The most common request: calculating, paying, and reporting taxes on time. For example:

  • Monthly: Article 21 income tax on salaries, Article 23 tax on service payments, Article 4(2) final tax on building rentals or construction services, Article 25 instalments, and VAT for VAT-registered businesses (PKP).
  • Annual: corporate income tax returns for PTs and CVs, the owner’s personal return, and annual withholding slips for employees.
  • Coretax administration: issuing tax invoices and withholding slips, and managing the company’s accounts and representatives in Coretax, the tax administration system in use since 1 January 2025.

2. Bookkeeping and financial statements

Correct tax starts with correct books. Many tax problems in Denpasar begin with bookkeeping that is missing or prepared late, so returns are filed on estimates. A consultant who also handles the bookkeeping makes sure the financial statements, monthly returns, and annual return reconcile with each other.

3. Tax planning

Tax planning means legally keeping the tax burden as efficient as possible using the rules available: choosing the right income tax scheme, using the Article 31E rate reduction for companies, deciding when to register for VAT, or calculating the tax impact before changing your business structure. It is different from aggressive tax avoidance. The goal is to pay what the law requires, no more and no less.

4. Representation before the tax office

This includes responding to an SP2DK (a request for clarification of data), accompanying a tax audit, amending returns, or applying for penalty reductions. Experience matters most here, because how you answer and which documents you attach shape the outcome. See also our guide to responding to an SP2DK.

Signs your business needs a tax consultant

  • Turnover approaching IDR 4.8 billion a year. At that point you must register for VAT and charge it, and your income tax scheme changes too.
  • Your business is a CV or PT. Since GR 20/2026, newly established CVs and non-sole-shareholder PTs can no longer use the 0.5% final tax. Tax is calculated on profit, so proper bookkeeping becomes mandatory.
  • You hire permanent staff. Article 21 tax under the average effective rate (TER) system and BPJS must be calculated monthly, then trued up in December.
  • You regularly pay other parties for services, such as contractors, consultants, or asset rentals, which creates obligations to withhold Article 23 or Article 4(2) tax.
  • You have received an SP2DK or a reminder letter, or some returns have gone unfiled for years.
  • You spend more than a few hours a month on tax matters outside your expertise. That time is worth more spent growing the business.

How are tax consultant fees usually structured?

There is no universal standard fee. Fees usually follow one of three models:

Model Suits Notes
Monthly retainer Businesses with routine transactions: PTs, CVs, villas, restaurants, contractors Covers monthly compliance and usually bookkeeping. Predictable cost.
Per project Annual returns, amendments, SP2DK responses, company setup Scope and deliverables agreed upfront.
Hourly / advisory Specific questions or a second opinion Useful for one-off decisions, e.g. before buying an asset or restructuring.

The biggest cost drivers are transaction volume, number of employees, VAT status, the taxes involved, and the current state of your books. Bookkeeping that is several months behind, for example, needs reconstruction work that a well-kept business does not.

A sensible way to judge fees is to compare them with the risk avoided. Late-filing penalties alone are IDR 100,000 per monthly income tax return, IDR 500,000 per monthly VAT return, and IDR 1,000,000 for a corporate annual return, before interest on late payments. Calculation errors discovered during an audit can cost far more.

What to prepare before engaging a consultant

  • Company identity documents: deed of establishment and amendments, business ID (NIB), tax ID (NPWP), and VAT registration letter if any.
  • Coretax access, or appointment of the consultant as proxy/representative as permitted.
  • Business bank statements, sales records, and expense receipts for recent months.
  • Employee data: PTKP status, salaries, allowances, and BPJS membership.
  • Previous returns and payment slips, plus any letters received from the tax office.

Choosing the right consultant

Make sure the consultant understands your type of business, explains the basis of every calculation in plain language, and is clear about who does the work and when. We cover the criteria in more detail in how to choose a tax consultant in Denpasar.
